STEP

1

Remote OBD Purchase

The motorist can purchase the Remote OBD Vehicle Link online from the program website, or through an authorized Remote OBD Center.

STEP

2

Remote OBD Initialization

To increase security, the Remote OBD Link is uniquely linked to the particular vehicle on which it is installed. The Link initialization contains multiple intelligent fraud detection features to prevent tampering.

STEP

3

Remote OBD Installation

The Remote OBD Link is installed just once during the lifetime of the vehicle. The mechanical installation is simple and quick. However, it may be best to have an authorized person perform the installation to ensure quality and prevent fraud.

STEP

4

Continuous Monitoring

The Remote OBD Link continuously monitors the vehicle’s OBD system, evaluates all emission-related parameters and stores relevant data that can later be transmitted. The readiness problem is overcome since all emission monitors get covered in the course of time.

STEP

5

Remote OBD Inspection

Data is transmitted when the motorist is doing routine activities such as driving to the dentist, grocery store, gas station, etc. When the vehicle passes through the Hot-Spot of a fixed or mobile Remote OBD Access Point, the Remote OBD Link sends identification and the required OBD data stream.

The I in I/M just got a whole lot easier!

STEP

6

Security and Privacy

The SysTech Remote OBD Network is designed with data security and motorist privacy in mind. Data encryption and data validation fully ensure the integrity of the Remote OBD data communications. In addition, location, date and time information can be fully suppressed based on the needs of the I/M program and motorists.

STEP

7

Transfer Data to Central Database

The data retrieved from the vehicle’s Remote OBD Link is immediately validated at the Remote OBD Access Point and loaded into a local database. Data is then transferred to the I/M program’s VID either in real-time or in batch mode.

STEP

8

Motorist Notification

The motorist will be informed about emission status, warnings or violations via email, mail, fax, or through the Internet. Immediate notification results in greater emission reduction benefits for the program.

The M in I/M just got a whole lot faster!

STEP

9

Automatic Compliance

The Remote OBD Network provides a link between the Central VID and the DMV's Vehicle Registration System. The result is immediate, effective and efficient vehicle registration enforcement.

STEP

10

Cleaner Air and Better Public Acceptance

Since vehicles that fail emission standards can be identified and repaired immediately, fewer high emitters will be on the road. Further, with the Remote OBD Network, motorist convenience is greatly enhanced while emission reductions are maximized, resulting in cleaner air and greater public acceptance.
